RUNNER'S BOOK

Our idea for the 24-Hour ATR came from the trail on which it is held.  Our goal is to promote the growth of trail running and endurance trail running.  We work to contribute and give back to our local community & the National Parks Service.  2006 saw our inaugural event went off without a hitch.  In addition to running, our event contributed and facilitated over $5000 in donations.  2008 will see one minor change to our successful event.  This year the course will be run in the REVERSE direction.  This will happen every other year of the event.  The mileage will be the same; the elevation gain/loss with be the same; the direction will vary!

Overview
The paradigm that runners and trail runners adhere to is to run in events that focus on time over a fixed distance.  Co-event race directors Scott Crabb and Alex Papadopoulos have decided to break stride.  In the 24-Hour Adventure Trail Run (ATR), runners will log as many miles as possible over a 24 hour period.  How’s that for a change?  Throw time out the window and see how many miles you can conquer in 24 hours.

Runners can compete in Solo or Team Categories. Charity/military teams will be running for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, www.semperfifund.org Direct links are featured on the right side of our Web Page. When donating specify, our event “24-HR Adventure Trail Run” and your runner’s name in the Memo/Comments section of the check. In addition, donations can be made on-line.

Categories vary so every runner will enjoy the achievement of running for 24-hours while being invigorated by competition.  You will have the opportunity to compete in something that very few people even dare to think about or even consider.  Join us for an experience of a lifetime, while discovering one of Washington DC’s hidden National Forest Treasures.  Click Here to get some history of the Prince William Forest Park.

Course Design and Description
The 24-Hour Adventure Trail Run will be held within the Prince William Forest Park, located just outside historic Triangle, VA and Marine Corps Base, Quantico.  Found 35 miles south of Washington D.C., this run offers a great opportunity to visit the Nations’ Capital and explore 15,000+ acres of Virginia’s National Park wilderness.

The course is in a National Park of rolling hills, 8 mile loop (12.5 loops = 100 miles) with approximately 300+ feet of elevation gain/loss per lap.  Each loop will begin at the Start/Finish for the 24-hour ATR.  There will be a satellite aid station at approximately the half way point.  There will be plenty of roots, rocks, mud, and dirt of the trail, but generally this is a non-technical single trail adventure trail run.

The Course has been designed and race formulate by Scott and Alex in such a fashion to allow the most experienced of trail runners and the newest trail runners to run side by side.  There will be uphill sections; there will be down hill sections; there will be flat sections.  Fun, challenging, dynamic, and adventurous.  Don’t pass up this opportunity!

Race Location

The Start/Finish line will be at Camp (Mawavi) in Prince William Forest Park, National Park Service.  Camp 2 is a Cabin Camp that will accommodate 170 campers in a cabin bunk style lodging.  Cabin accommodations sleep between two (2) to (6) six people, with one 12 people cabin.  Hot showers and bathrooms are newly renovated and located in centralized areas.  Additional information on local lodging and the cabin camp is available is our download section on this web page.
